What Is The Difference Between Cheap And Expensive LED Grow Lights?

Posted by under Uncategorized

Have you ever wondered why you bothered to purchase a good LED light that probably cost you hundreds of dollars when you could have bought the same from a Chinese company for less than a quarter of the price? Has this happened to you? Well, you’re not alone. There are so many varieties of LEDs out there today that are so cheap that you begin to actually wonder about the quality.

Just like you, I wondered and did some research. Turns out that there are plenty of reasons why some of the expensive LEDs are far better than their dirt-cheap counterparts manufactured in China. This is not to say that every inexpensive LED is bad because there are several manufacturers like King LED and Mars Hydro that have consistently performed well. Also, I’m not implying that every product manufactured in China is defective because there are many products that are really quite good.

But, when it comes to the differences between cheap and expensive grow lights, there are many.

  • LED Quality

The fate of an LED Grow light rests on the quality of the LEDs, which should be the best led grow lights. If the LEDs are inferior, it’s no wonder that you’re getting the light at a bargain, but you can forget about lofty claims from the manufacturer stating that the lights have the ability to perform for more than 100,000 hours. 100,000 hours is almost a decade, and many LEDs that are expensive actually live up to this claim, but can we say the same about some lights that are made with inferior LEDs?

It’s important that your LED is efficient because you don’t want to be stuck with something that burns up in just a few days. Grow lights like the Advanced Platinum LEDs are expensive, but the quality of the LEDs is such that it produces more light than heat. Efficient LEDs always have a better light output compared to other LEDs manufactured with inferior materials.

  • Weight

We usually see many customers happily praising their lights that weigh next to nothing. On the other hand, lights like the Advanced Platinum P450 weigh about 15 lbs. Take the Viparspectra 1200w, for example. It weighs almost 25 lbs. Now compare it to lights that weigh only 5-6 lbs. Obviously, the lighter grow light seems like a better option, but if you want quality LEDs, they will be heavy.

A good Grow light needs to distribute heat evenly and it also shouldn’t give out too much heat. To accomplish this, a good deal of aluminum is required. As you probably already know, aluminum is heavy and the lights that use aluminum will also be heavy. It’s not possible to get a great grow light that’s weighs next to nothing without using good-quality materials.

As with everything else, quality has a price and grow lights are no exceptions. So, what’s used in those super-light Grow lights? Plastic. Yep. Now you know why some lights are heavy and why the others are so light.

  • Light Quality

LED lights require phosphor that’s quite expensive. This is partly why you’ll see some lights priced at a higher range. However, many manufacturers override this important requirement to make the lights cheaper.

Also, it’s difficult to maintain an even white color in LEDs and when you see colors that slightly differ from one another, you know that you’ve bought something that’s not worth it. Yes, you can still grow cannabis plants using these lights, but some of the best LED Grow lights cost a little more money and you’ll realize that it’s all worth it once you harvest your buds.
